the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

Do online companies join the Better Business Bureau? Does any business find membership in the BBB to be worthwhile? Since the BBB has many members, I presume many businesses find BBB membership to be an asset. However, I’ve not found many companies doing business online to boast of being a BBB member. It seems that if you want to find out about a business online, you just Google it.

This issue arose for me the other day when I was looking for the cheapest copy of Windows 7 I could find. Well not the cheapest, but the least expensive “Genuine” copy I could find. I found many places that would sell Windows at list prices, and some for a modest discount. I also ran into a few that sold it for substantially less. I decided it might be prudent to Google those firms that sold Windows cheap. What I found is that many people had issue with firms selling on eCrater. But like on eBay, there are both good people and scammers selling stuff on eCrater. So the fact the seller was on eCrater did not confirm nor deny the legitimacy of the seller. But I did find one seller of heavily discounted copies of Windows to be a member of the Better Business Bureau. So I concluded their product was probably legit. Time will tell if that is a valid assumption…
