As I observe the flooding in my hometown, I can’t help but make comparisons to the National Debt.
Let me list the ways, in no particular order:
1. Something could have been done sooner, in which case the consequences would not be nearly so severe.
2. People voiced concerns before the crisis hit, but were largely ignored.
3. Persons in a position to have defused the problem didn’t take the time/effort to be bothered with it.
4. Persons in a position to have defused the problem beforehand accept no responsibility for what is happening.
5. The people most harmed by the problem were previously told they need not worry about the problem.
6. The people most harmed by the problem lacked the influence needed to mitigate the threat.
And just as people have lost their life savings to the flood, the working class will lose their life savings to the national debt. Why is it that people in positions of authority won’t take appropriate action in a timely manner to keep impending disaster at bay?
