Yeah, I stumbled across some more fine print…
In summary, it said ‘because you have health insurance, you will be subjected to marketing by our partners – and there is nothing you can do about it!’
Really? Do I have to choose between health insurance and unwanted junk mail, spam, and/or telemarketing?
That’s what it looked like to me. You be the judge; here’s the notice: “Please keep in mind that … if you have … an account with us, we share information about you with our … partners in connection with [blah, blah, blah]…, including for that … partner to market to you. Federal law does not give you the right to limit this sharing.”
This notice came in an annual ‘privacy notice’ mailed by the firm contracted to process payments for my employer sponsored health insurance. Thus, it appears that as a consequence of having health insurance I have no choice but to subject myself to marketing from their various "retail partners."
