MR. NICE GUY

Most people are nice guys. But we seldom mention someone's behavior except when they act like a real jerk.

Saturday I observed a “nice guy.” A total stranger – I have no idea who he was, nor did he know any of us (as far as I know). But he noticed a situation where he could be of help, and stopped for two minutes to assist us. It was no big deal – it was just a random act of kindness. Something a nice guy would do.

The situation was pretty trivial. We had taken a motorbike ride with friends. When we got to our destination, we all lined up behind our bikes to take a picture. However, our photographer was going to be missing from the picture! Except this nice guy in a delivery truck happen to be going by and noticed our predicament. He pulled over, hopped out of his truck, and took our picture. He then jumped back into his truck and went on his way. We were pleasantly surprised, and appreciative.

Later, I pondered the situation. How often do we notice some simple scenario where an extra hand would help? But we ignore it… We make excuses to ourselves for turning a blind eye, especially when the situation appears relatively minor. But this “Mr. Nice Guy” demonstrated just how friendly and congenial we humans can – and should – be to one another. Although you probably are not reading this, thanks Mr. Nice Guy, for the assistance and a gentle reminder by example how we all should act.
